Summary
Pieterse se nagelate roman speel af in die hart van Afrika. Sy kenmerkende humor loop hand aan hand met erns en besinning. Die reis begin in 1871 wanneer Dennis Chipman by Algoabaai aan wal gaan. Met sy agtpondergeweer en sy Ierse terrier trek hy saam met transportryers noordwaarts. Teen die Zambezi draai hy wes om die kronkels en stroomversnellings te verken. Waar die Zambezi sy boggel maak, is dit nog eens noordwaarts deur die oewerruigtes. Vier geslagte later maak sy naamgenoot weer kamp aan die Zambezi, by Manaka Plek van die Horings.
